A Macon man was jailed on a DUI charge. The next day, he murdered a fellow inmate, police say
Officials have ruled the death of a Bibb County Jail inmate a homicide and charged a fellow inmate with aggravated assault and murder in connection with his death.
Carlos Delmara Shelley, 48, who had lived on Moseley Avenue with his father, was found unconscious at the county lockup on Oglethorpe Street at about 9 p.m. on June 2. He was later pronounced dead.
Shelley’s body was sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s office, which determined Shelley had been killed. Joseph Anthony Moore, 50 of Macon, was charged with murdering Shelley and is being held without bond.
Jail records indicate Moore was arrested a day before the killing and charged with a DUI, related traffic offenses, a probation violation and contempt of court.
According to jail records, Shelley had be incarcerated since the afternoon of May 16 on charges of theft by shoplifting and second-degree criminal damage to property. He had been held on a $6,600 bond.
