Macon pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver on Pio Nono Avenue, officials say

A 52-year-old Macon woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while she was apparently walking along Pio Nono Avenue on Monday night died of her injuries.

Early Tuesday, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the victim, Audrey Mack, was pronounced dead at a local hospital about half an hour after the 9:17 p.m. incident.

Further details of what happened were not immediately available, but officials said Mack was struck at Pio Nono’s intersection with Carroll Street at the crest of a hill four blocks north of Eisenhower Parkway.

Sheriff’s officials said in a statement late Monday that “there is no information available ... in reference to the vehicle that struck the female.”
