New details in violent north Macon attack that left woman in critical condition

A husband and wife found assaulted Sunday at their north Macon home were allegedly beaten and robbed by a former co-worker of the husband’s who was said to have visited the house for a late night of drinking.

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies were called to a house in the 4900 block of Kathryn Drive shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, where they found the husband “severely injured,” covered in blood with his nose “partially severed,” an incident report obtained Wednesday by The Telegraph said.

The husband said he had been “attacked in his sleep,” the report noted. His wife was incapacitated in the couple’s basement, and as sheriff’s deputies made their way to her they noticed “blood on the hallway walls.”

Frederick D. Jackson, 41 — a man who the husband told deputies he had once worked with at a local Tractor Supply Company — was jailed on charges that included aggravated assault and robbery.

The Telegraph is withholding the couple’s names for privacy reasons.

The husband said he had been drinking alcohol with the 5-foot-8, 340-pound Jackson in the husband’s garage for a few hours while his wife was asleep in a bedroom.

The attack, which happened in a neighborhood off Wesleyan Drive, just north of Tattnall Square Academy, may have gone unreported for hours. From what the husband told the deputies, he went to bed around 3 a.m. after telling Jackson to “stay till morning,” the report said.

“That was the last thing (the husband) remembered,” the report went on. “(The husband) did not remember if Freddie stayed or left the residence. (The husband) went to lie down. He woke up and realized he and his wife had been assaulted. Freddie was gone.”

In the report, there is no mention of how the husband sustained his injuries, but he said that when he woke up his phone and wallet were gone.

It was unclear what prompted the violence, but in their report the sheriff’s deputies described a grisly scene.

They noted that sheets and pillowcases were “saturated in blood” and there were blood spatters on the floors and walls. Some of the husband’s teeth were knocked out and found on a bed, the report said.

The wife was found facedown in on the basement floor, “breathing but unresponsive,” the report added.

According to the report, his wife had apparent broken bones, severe lacerations and other major injuries. The pair were taken to a local hospital where the wife was reportedly in critical condition as of Wednesday.
