A Macon funeral home was the victim of odd theft by a woman Monday.

Fairhaven Funeral Home, located on Mount Pleasant Church Road in south Bibb County, was preparing for a casket to be delivered and left a set of casket trucks out on the front porch.

The trucks are the small, sometimes foldable carts used to transport caskets around the funeral home and into the hearse.

The funeral home’s camera system captured a woman coming onto the front porch and taking those casket trucks before leaving the area, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones

Jones said the funeral home installed a camera system after being the victim of a series of thefts in which catalytic converters were being stolen from their vehicles.

The stealing of the casket trucks was a bit more baffling, Jones said.

“You can only sell those to another funeral home and if you wanted to use them to haul plywood, you would still have to hold it in place,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense why someone would steal a casket truck.”

The funeral home wants their casket trucks back and Jones has offered to come to pick them up.

“She just needs to call and tell me where she is leaving them at,” Jones said. “I don’t mind coming to get them.”
