Law enforcement officials were working Monday to identify a body found Sunday night along Ga. Highway 96 about 4 miles east of Bonaire.

The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office was alerted sometime around 8 p.m. that a dead person had been discovered just east of the Ocmulgee River along the border of Twiggs and Houston counties.

Jerry Jones, special agent in charge of the GBI’s Perry office, which was investigating the case, said Monday that authorities had yet to determine whether foul play was involved in the death.

They were also believed to be trying to determine the cause of the death.
