Florida man shot to death in car in front of Riverside Drive motel in Macon

A spray of shattered glass, likely from a shot-out windshield, littered a driveway entrance to a Riverside Drive motel in the wake of a shooting death that left a Florida man dead late Tuesday in a car that crashed down a roadside embankment across the street.

The deadly episode happened not long after 11 p.m. at the Best Western Riverside Inn at 2400 Riverside Drive, which parallels Interstate 75 just south of the freeway’s Pierce Avenue exit.

The victim, Chauncey Jevon Love II, 27, of Orange Park near Jacksonville, had tried to drive away after being shot, officials said. He died at the scene.

No one else was injured and it was not immediately known what may have led to Love’s shooting or whether he was visiting Macon or passing through.

The motel is also home to the Back Porch Lounge, a popular nightspot, but it was unclear if Love had been a guest at either establishment or just happened to pull into the parking lot.
