Shooting at west Macon apartment complex leaves 30-year-old man dead

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night at an apartment complex just north of Mercer University Drive in west Macon, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The victim, Cyrus Norwood, who was shot in the head, was found inside an automobile at the Anthos at Shadowood West apartments at 4344 West Highland Drive, about a mile east of Interstate 475.

In a statement late Wednesday, Bibb sheriff’s officials said deputies had answered a shots-fired call shortly after 8 p.m. and soon found Norwood mortally wounded.

“Investigators are following up on a lead ... that a person was seen running from the scene” and into some woods, the statement said, adding that a police helicopter had been called in to help search for the suspect.

Braylon Alexander Jones, 20, of Macon, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with Norwood’s death.
