Caught on camera: Georgia homeowner’s hidden mailbox cam snaps pic of theft suspect

Bibb County Sheriff's Office

The beefy-faced suspect didn’t grin or say cheese, but he may as well have snapped a selfie and mailed it to the cops.

When a suspect in a string of northwest Bibb County mail thefts stuck his mug in front of a mailbox and reached inside the other day, a security cam secreted inside clicked a closeup.

A Lake Wildwood homeowner, apparently fed up with a rash of postal pilfering, recently hid the camera and waited for the letter larcenist to strike.

Soon enough, the cops say, he did.

The suspect’s image, featuring him in a backward baseball cap, was soon forwarded to Bibb County sheriff’s investigators.

“I love the initiative they took,” sheriff’s Lt. Sean DeFoe said of the homeowner.

The suspect was being sought in what were described as “multiple” similar thefts that began in late September on Atagahi Trail, Will Scarlet Way, Greentree Parkway and Coyote Court. He was believed to be riding in a dark-gray sedan.

Anyone who recognizes him was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500.
