Body found near train tracks off of Roff Avenue in Macon identified, coroner says

A body has been found in the woods off of Roff Avenue in Macon.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a railroad worker at 1:45 p.m. about a body found near railroad tracks across from Roff Avenue, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

“They have examined the body back in the woods. He still has no identification on him. He’s a white male looks to be in his early 40s, so we’re going to roll his fingerprints and try to find out who he is,” Jones said earlier in the afternoon.

The body was identified at Freddie Dumas, 71, and he was found near a Bibb County Board of Education maintenance office and warehouse where several buses are parked.

Although they didn’t find any trauma on the body, Jones said they are contacting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to examine the body to make sure there wasn’t foul play. No signs of decomposing were present.

The trains had to be halted in order to remove the body from the scene, Jones said.

Anyone with information in reference to this incident is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
