Perry man called ‘Yappydappy’ online admits to having 213 child porn photos on phone
A Houston County man on Wednesday pleaded guilty in federal court to a possession of child pornography charge. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
David Franklin Browder III was arrested in January after authorities in Canada last year alerted federal officials in Atlanta that someone using the instant-messaging app Kik had shared or uploaded an image containing what court records describe as “sexually explicit material of a child.”
Browder, who is 32 and was at the time living at his stepfather’s house on Copper Canyon Road in Perry, was said to have gone by the online screen name “Yappydappy.”
In January, federal law enforcement officers showed up at the house with a search warrant and seized Browder’s cellphone. In all, according to court documents, 213 images of “child-sexual” material were found on Browder’s phone.
When asked if he knew why the federal agents were at his residence, Browder, according to officials, replied, “Porn reasons.”
According to wording in his plea agreement, Browder, a registered sex offender, acknowledged being “Yappydappy” and said he had been viewing child pornography since he was 12.
At Wednesday’s sentencing hearing in U.S. District Court in Macon, Browder’s lawyer said Browder had “expressed remorse” for his crime and had spoken of “changes that have to happen in his life” in order for him “to be free of the things that have haunted him in his past.”
The lawyer did not elaborate.
Browder, later addressing Judge Marc T. Treadwell, spoke on his own behalf, saying, “I just want to acknowledge what I’ve done and apologize for it. The best way I know how is just to continue going forward with whatever happens.”
Prosecutors acknowledged Browder’s cooperation with investigators and said “he wants to do better,” but will warrant “close monitoring” upon his release from prison a decade from now.
Browder was also ordered to pay $3,000 to each victim known to authorities in at least some of the images discovered on his phone. Just how many victims that might be was not immediately clear.
