‘Reckless’ driver of stolen SUV leads two-county chase through Middle Georgia, cops say

A chase that began in southern Monroe County on Monday morning ended in southern Bibb County after the driver of a stolen SUV was stopped and then ran into the woods, authorities said.

Law enforcement officials said the pursuit began near the Rumble Road exit on Interstate 75 when a state trooper tried to pull over a Ford Escape that had been reported stolen in Houston County.

The SUV wouldn’t stop and it raced south on the freeway at “a high rate of speed,” Georgia State Patrol said in a press release.

The Ford exited the interstate at Bass Road in northern Bibb and then “traveled through Macon in a reckless manner,” the statement said.

The chase continued as the SUV returned to the freeway and raced south to Hartley Bridge Road and then west, where another state trooper picked up the pursuit.

“The trooper was able to successfully perform the PIT Maneuver” on the Ford along Bethel Church Road, where, upon being halted, the man said to be driving darted into some woods.

After tracking dogs and a helicopter were called in, the suspect, Angel Daniel Feliciano, was taken into custody, the statement said, adding that a search of the SUV turned up a pair of stolen handguns and “several thousand dollars” in cash.

Information on what Feliciano, who is in his mid-30s, might be charged with was not immediately available.

According to prison records, he has past convictions in Houston and Laurens counties for fleeing and eluding police, along with other convictions that include theft, trespassing, aggravated battery and reckless driving.

Records show that he has been on parole for a theft-by-receiving conviction since April 20.
