Macon teacher charged with solicitation of sodomy after reporting a robbery

A Macon teacher has been charged with solicitation of sodomy after sheriff’s investigators looked into a Facebook post about a carjacking, kidnapping and robbery.

Christopher Keys, 56, was being held on the misdemeanor charge in the Bibb County jail early Friday.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, sheriff’s investigators looked into a “rumor about a carjacking and kidnapping” Wednesday at the CVS at 1615 Forest Hill Drive.

No such incident occurred, but investigators found Keys reported a personal armed robbery to the sheriff’s office the previous day.

Here’s what happened, according to the release:

Deputies met with Keys at the Regency Inn & Suites at 4951 Eisenhower Parkway about an armed robbery.

Keys told deputies he in his motel room when he answered a knock at the door. When he opened the door, he was robbed by two men, one who was armed, of his wallet, keys and a cellphone.

He told deputies someone he didn’t know found his cellphone in a nearby Walmart parking lot and brought it to him.

“Keys stated to deputies that he had responded to an ad on Craigslist,” the release said. “He was to meet a man at the motel in room #111.”

Investigators discovered that Keys had been a frequent visitor to the motel since January.

“Keys told deputies at the time of the initial report that he did not want this to get out and that he did not want deputies to talk with his relatives,” the release said. “Keys said that he was going to tell his father that he was kidnapped from another location and brought to the motel.”

Keys, who was listed as a teacher on Tattnall Square Academy’s website, was arrested late Thursday afternoon. The alleged robbery reported by Keys remains under investigation, the release said.

Alyssa Huntt, director of communications and public relations at Tattnall Square Academy, said in an email that Keys is a former teacher. She declined to say in what capacity he had taught or for how long.

“Tattnall Square Academy was only recently made aware of the charges against our former employee, Christopher Keys,” Huntt said in the email. “We have no comment or information regarding the matter about which he is accused.”

WMAZ-TV reported that the Facebook post, which has since been taken down, was posted by a neighbor based on what her daughter told her she’d heard from Keys himself.

Anyone having any information about any of these incidents is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
