Macon man, 27, shot Sunday on Napier Avenue, dies in city hospital

A 27-year-old Macon man who was shot in the chest Sunday afternoon later died at a city hospital.

Bibb County sheriff’s officials said the victim, Doug Boyd, was shot once inside a house at 4211 Napier Ave. about 1:30 p.m.

“No one else was injured in the incident. There is no information on the suspect at this time,” the officials said in a statement sent to local news outlets Sunday.

Boyd was pronounced dead at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, about five hours later. The slaying remained under investigation on Monday and as of about midday there had been no arrest made.

The house where the shooting happened sits about half a mile southeast of Napier’s intersection with Forsyth Road. According to a news release from sheriff’s officials, Boyd was picked up by a friend in the moments after the shooting.

“The friend was driving him to the hospital when they noticed deputies and firefighters working an accident on Napier,” the news release added.

Boyd was from there taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died.
