Off-duty Macon cop accused of pulling gun on man in bar

A Bibb County sheriff’s deputy was jailed Wednesday for allegedly pulling a gun on a man at a Macon nightclub where the deputy was working off duty as a DJ.

Sheriff’s officials said in an emailed statement that the deputy, James Emberson Litton, turned himself in.

Litton, 50, whose resonant voice has in the past earned him work as a local radio disc jockey, was said to have been deejaying Tuesday at Ice Bar & Grill.

It was there at the 3464 Williamson Road establishment on the city’s southwest side that Litton and “another male got into an altercation over a female,” the sheriff’s statement said. “Litton was reported to have pulled a handgun on the other male.”

Further details were not immediately available, but no shots were reported.

Litton was later charged with aggravated assault and was being held Wednesday in lieu of $22,200 bond.

The sheriff’s statement said Litton had been placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.

Litton, a patrol officer who joined the Macon Police Department in 2010, became a sheriff’s deputy when Macon and Bibb County consolidated half a decade ago.

Originally from Kentucky, he moved to Middle Georgia at the turn of the century for a radio job.
