Bibb County inmate dies after being found unresponsive in cell, sheriff says

An inmate in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center died Thursday after being found unresponsive in his cell just after 2 p.m. according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said it appeared based on conditions in the cell that the inmate hung himself.

He was transported to Navicent Medical Center where he was pronounced dead after receiving life-saving measures.

Because the death occurred in custody, an autopsy will be performed and the incident will be investigated by the Internal Affairs Office. The inmate’s name will be released once relatives are notified.
