Macon mother arrested after 6-year-old accidentally shot while playing with gun, cops say

A 32-year-old Macon woman was arrested Monday in connection with a shooting last week in west Macon that left her 6-year-old son wounded, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said.

Traveshia Nataya Ivory, of 2728 Heaton Drive, was being held without bond on a charge of second-degree cruelty to children.

Her arrest stems from a Feb. 5 shooting at a her residence on Heaton, sheriff’s officials said in a statement, in which her 5- and 6-year-old sons “found a handgun inside the home and it was accidentally discharged.”

When the gun fired, the 6-year-old was struck in his shoulder, the statement noted.

The wound was said to be “non-life-threatening.”

Ivory was being held Monday in lieu of $5,700 bond.

Heaton Drive lies between Bloomfield Road and Nisbet Drive, a mile and half south of Eisenhower Parkway.
