Police officer arrested on charge of murder in death of his wife

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills confirmed Thursday that an Eatonton police officer, whose wife was found dead in their home on Monday, has been arrested on a charge of murder.

Perrault was charged with murder in connection with his wife’s death Wednesday night at a relative’s home in Newton County, Sills said at a news conference aired live on WXGA-TV.

Perrault was being held without bond at the Putnam County Jail.

Sills said 44-year-old Amanda Perrault was found fatally shot in the head Monday at her home.

Perrault’s husband, Michael Perrault, told authorities that he and his wife were arguing when she pulled out a gun and shot herself.

Michael Perrault was arrested last week on several domestic violence charges. He has been a Eatonton police officer since 2018.

Sills says Amanda Perrault’s death wasn’t immediately ruled a suicide or a homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
