Man shot in back during ‘verbal argument’ expected to survive, Macon cops say

A Macon man who was shot in the back during a “verbal argument” Monday evening is expected to survive, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said early Tuesday.

The 22-year-old was wounded about 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of Mallard Avenue on they city’s west side.

Mallard Avenue, in the Bird City neighborhood, sits just north of Eisenhower Parkway and south of Henderson Stadium and Hartley Elementary School.

Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that the victim was arguing “with several males,” but there was no mention in the statement about what the dispute may have involved or who might have shot the young man.

“During the argument, shots were fired and the victim was struck by gunfire in his back,” the sheriff’s statement noted. “No one else was injured during the incident. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.”
