Macon man arrested, accused of doing ‘donuts’ in wife’s truck to ‘impress girls’

Pedestrians yelled and dashed out of the way last week in downtown Macon as a man in a pickup truck spun burnouts along Second Street in front of a popular nightclub, police say.

The Nov. 30 episode outside the Crazy Bull bar involved a 34-year-old man at the wheel of a dark-blue 2009 Ford F-150.

It was about 11:30 p.m. when an off-duty Bibb County sheriff’s deputy, who was apparently providing security at the club, heard “loud, screeching noises of tires being spun,” an incident report said.

The report added that the truck’s rear tires smoked as the pickup “did a donut” at the intersection of Second and Cherry streets.

“This was during a time that pedestrian foot traffic was heavy downtown and you could see people moving quickly away ... and yelling,” the report said.

The deputy walked into the street, halted the truck and asked the driver why he was making a scene.

“I was trying to impress some girls walking in the intersection,” the driver, Omar Torres, of Macon, reportedly said.

Torres was also said to have asked the deputy, “Please don’t tow my wife’s truck.”

Torres was jailed on two charges: reckless driving and driving without a license.
