Monroe deputies fatally shoot woman
A woman was fatally shot by Monroe County deputies on Monday after she brandished an air pistol made to look like a .357 caliber revolver, according to the GBI.
The deceased woman was identified at Ida Christy Stiles, 42. According to a GBI release, deputies were called to a home at 149 Martha Lane, near High Falls State Park, at 10:42 a.m. The release states that Stiles made the call to 911 but did not give a reason for the call.
Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with her through the door but she would not come to the door. The deputies entered the home and were confronted by Stiles, who was brandishing a pistol, the release stated.
Three deputies fired the fatal shots. No deputies were injured.
Lt. Ricky Davis, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, declined to comment because the case has been turned over to the GBI.
