An argument at school apparently led to a teen being shot in the back off campus Friday afternoon in Macon.

Christopher Blount, 18, was listed in stable condition Sunday at the Medical Center, Navicient Health, said Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Williams, a public information officer.

Blount is expected to recover, Williams said.

Twin 16-year-old boys are charged with aggravated assault and were being held at a Regional Youth Detention Center, Williams said.

The shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. on Stevens Drive, which is off Mercer University Drive near MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union, Williams said.

“Evidently there was a verbal altercation at the school — I don’t know which school,” Williams said.

After school was out, Blount got into a physical fight with the twins, Williams said.

“During the altercation, one of the twins pulled a gun and shot Blount in the back,” Williams said.

Both twins were charged because both were involved, Williams said.

What the argument was about, how the teenager got a hold of a pistol, or to whom the pistol belonged was not immediately known, Williams said.

Williams said he expects all of the teenagers were students since the argument started at school and the sheriff’s office did not receive a call from the school of criminal trespassing on school grounds.

“The shooting did not happen at the school so we weren’t involving the school other than they had a verbal,” Williams said. “And then after school and on Stevens Drive is when they had the physical.”

The twins are minors, which means their names are shielded by Georgia law unless prosecuted as adults. The twins are expected to be prosecuted through juvenile court, Williams said.
