Macon man gets three years in prison for downloading child porn
A Macon man has been sentenced in federal court to three years in prison for downloading child pornography on his computer.
Robert Murphy, 26, also was sentenced to 25 years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia.
Law enforcement found 109 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct on Murphy’s computer, the release said.
Child pornography files available for sharing through an internet connection associated with Murphy’s residence were discovered in April 2016. A search warrant was then issued.
Murphy admitted to searching for and downloading child pornography using peer-to-peer programs, downloading and watching child pornography and later deleting the files, the release said.
“Possession of child pornography is not a victimless crime,” U.S. Attorney Charles Peeler for the Middle District of Georgia said in the release. “When people download or view these horrific images of real children being subjected to unspeakable acts, those children are once again made victims and suffer real harm.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office was assisted by Homeland Security, the GBI and the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
