A Houston County man accused of sending a 16-year-old girl a video clip of him touching his genitals pleaded guilty Wednesday to nearly three dozen counts of sexual exploitation of children.

Stephen Christopher Garrard, 52, was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by 12 more on probation as a sex offender.

He was arrested in August 2016 after authorities were informed that he had also, via Facebook Messenger, sent someone an image of child pornography.

Garrard, who is from Warner Robins, was living on College Street in Macon when he was jailed on charges that included 34 counts of sexual exploitation of children.

He pleaded guilty to those charges and to one count of electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. He was said to have had pictures on his cellphone that showed minors engaged in sex acts.

“Collectors of child pornography create a marketplace where children are just another commodity used to act out child molesters’ sick crimes of fantasy,” Bibb District Attorney David Cooke said in a statement. “Anyone who collects, produces or distributes this trash should expect to go to prison.”

Garrard has been a registered sex offender in Georgia since 2006 for a conviction six years earlier involving a child who was under the age of 16 in Florida, GBI records show.
