Driver hit by patrol car after failing to stop for sheriff’s deputy

A man fleeing from a Laurens County sheriff’s deputy was hit by the patrol car Saturday night.

Deputy A.J. Wright tried to pull over a vehicle on Old Macon Road when the driver kept going at a high rate of speed, according to a sheriff’s release.

The driver, Terrell Porter, turned into the Woodvale subdivision and stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road.

As Porter got out to run, he was hit by Wright’s patrol car.

Wright called for help and tended to Porter until emergency medical workers arrived.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.

Porter’s condition was not immediately available.
