Macon boy shot in leg while he and teen played with gun, cops say
An 11-year-old Macon boy was shot in the leg about noon on Wednesday while he and a teenager were playing with a gun, authorities said.
Police didn’t learn of the incident until hours later because the wounded boy reportedly tried to keep the shooting a secret. A statement about the episode from Bibb County sheriff’s officials said the 11-year-old had been trying to hide the matter from his parents.
Sheriff’s deputies first heard of the shooting about 8 p.m. Wednesday when they were called to the 2800 block of Roy Street, which runs west of Pio Nono Avenue and just north of Hillcrest Avenue.
It was then that they found out the 11-year-old and a 15-year-old had been playing with a handgun “at an unknown location,” the sheriff’s statement said.
The younger boy’s wound was not thought to be life-threatening. He was being treated at a city hospital. The 15-year-old was arrested on an aggravated assault charge.
