Bibb teacher charged with child cruelty
An elementary school teacher turned himself in to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday on charges of child cruelty in the case of three students who investigators learned had been injured.
Heritage Elementary School teacher Chad Everett Keen was suspended with pay after a woman reported to the school Nov. 8 that her 7-year-old special-needs child had bumps on his head.
Police allege that Keen struck the boy on the head with a pointer. An investigation found that two more students, ages 6 and 8, also had been struck with a pointer, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The 46-year-old turned himself in about 10 a.m. and was released shortly before noon a $25,350 bond, jail records show.
Keen started working at the school last summer as the school’s special education teacher.
The incidents are still under investigation, and anyone with information about it is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
