Alleged meth, gun trafficker ran from traffic stop in Monroe County, authorities say

A man accused of trafficking large amounts of crystal meth and guns escaped from a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop in Bolingbroke on Sunday.

Three people got out of a car after the deputy stopped it near Hayslips Hardware on U.S. 41, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver, 33-year-old Charles Reid, ran behind the store and escaped, Sgt. Lawson Bittick said.

Reid has a piercing above his right eye and teardrop tattoos under both eyes. He also has a cross tattoo on his forehead between his eyes.

Reid was wearing green jogging pants, a dark T-shirt with white lettering and a dark sock hat.

“If you see this anyone matching the description of this individual DO NOT ATTEMPT to make contact with him,” the sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page.

The two other passengers, 19-year-old Reginald Gurley and 32-year-old Ashley Sorrow, both of Cairo, were arrested and booked at the county jail. They are each charged with trafficking meth.

Anyone who spots Reid or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office immediately at 478-994-7010, or call 911.
