‘You survived,’ husband says to wife after being held hostage by escaped inmates

A 91l call that led to the arrest of the escaped Georgia inmates in Tennessee was released Friday.

During the nearly three minute call, a man, who along with his wife had been taken hostage, had just broken free after being held captive by Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose. In the call, he consoles his sobbing wife as he describes their harrowing experience.

Authorities say Rowe and Dubose forced their way into the Tennessee couples home Thursday afternoon. The Baldwin State Prison inmates were on their third day on the run after being accused of killing two prison guards in Putnam County.

Rowe and Dubose spent several hours Thursday at the couple’s home where the inmates threatened their lives, saying they had nothing to lose. After Rowe and Dubose left, the couple was able to get untied and call Bedford County E-911.

The husband declined an ambulance, but urged authorities to get there as quickly as possible. He said several times that Rowe and Dubose were the men whose escape prompted a nationwide manhunt, according to the recording.

“You survived,” the man said to his sobbing wife. “You did a good job. Come here and let me hold you.”

The husband told the dispatcher that the inmates, carrying high powered handguns, left in his black Jeep Cherokee.

“We were tied up, we just got loose,” he told the dispatcher after saying he was unsure what direction the suspects traveled in.

Rowe and Dubose were captured after a homeowner saw them trying to steal his car and held them at gunpoint. They will be extradited back to Georgia where they’ll face an array of charges.
