Dogs take over Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry
With more than 3,000 of them in attendance, it’s unlikely that every dog had its day at the annual Peach Blossom Cluster Dog Show held April 13-17 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry.
But there were plenty of challenges and opportunities.
The show featured events such as dock diving, agility, confirmation and obedience.
“There is something for everyone,” said Ann Wallin, committee member for the show.
One of the newer events was the barn hunt. Dogs used their scent instinct to find animals hidden among hay bales. The event uses live rats that were kept in secure containers.
The agility course was one of the most popular events both for dog owners and for spectators. The confirmation class was for purebred AKC-registered dogs while most of the other events were for non-purebred dogs.
The dog show has been coming to Middle Georgia for more than 20 years.
Events were spread out among four buildings, Miller-Murphy-Howard, Georgia Grown, Heritage Hall and McGill. The show office is located in the Roquemore building.
“It is just terrific for hosting the dog show,” said Wallin.
