Georgia guide a good way to find events

Georgia's state tourism department provides several ways to engage citizens and visitors alike to learn about our state's unique attractions and ongoing events. One option is the annual Georgia Travel Guide compiled by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, which is very useful in keeping up to date with attractions, events and lodging in Middle Georgia and other regions in the state. There is a map section that includes state parks and historic sites, and visitor resource sections for each region. You can get the state guide by visiting ExploreGeorgia.org on your computer or download the free app in Apple's Newstand by searching for "2016 Georgia Travel Guide." Use the guide to find out what's happening -- whether you want to attend as a spectator, be a vendor or volunteer to support a particular favorite community event. In Houston County alone there are several opportunities to enjoy food, art, music, a book sale and golf in April.

OLD BOOK SALE COMING

The 2016 Old Book Sale hosted by the Houston County Friends of the Library will have over 90,000 books available for purchase April 28-30 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry.

Doors will be open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. the first day of the sale. General admission that day is $5, but is free for Friends of the Library members. The hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 29 and admission is free. The sale is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 30 with free admission and a half-price sale all day.

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Enjoy an afternoon of golf for the worthy cause of supporting Habitat for Humanity on April 29. The 14th annual Houston County Charity Habitat for Humanity Charity Golf Tournament will take place at Southern Landings Golf Club, 309 Statham's Way, Warner Robins.
