Superheroes fight for values in 'Saving Christmas'
The Warner Robins Little Theatre and the Fine Art Society of Middle Georgia have collaborated to present a play during the holiday season.
"Saving Christmas" is written and directed by Tyler Bryant. He also stars in the play as Patriotic Man.
"People have been begging for a children's show for years," Bryant said.
The original idea was to host the play at the theater but the vision got too big. It will now be held at the Warner Robins Civic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The civic center can hold up to 1,400 people compared with the 90 from the theater.
Children are invited to come in princess and superhero costumes. The audience members will be included in the production.
The premise of the play is that a group of Debbie Downers kidnaps Santa Claus. They didn't receive gifts as children and don't want anyone else to receive presents ever again.
"They want Christmas canceled forever," Bryant said.
In to save the day are the superheroes of the show including, Super Granny played by Susan McRaney and Inferno Man played by Dillon Partain.
The two-part play also includes the traditional Bible story from the book of Luke.
"After Santa gets saved we will tell you about how a baby saves everyone," said Cheryl Taylor, who plays Mrs. Claus.
The set is being designed by the Fine Art Society.
Bryant said having a cast with ages ranging from 6 to 71 years old has been challenging.
"We've been working on it since late October," he said.
The theme of the play is saving not only Santa but ourselves, Bryant said.
Doors open at 4:15 p.m., and the play starts at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults at the door. A donation of a toy for Kids Yule Love gets an adult $1 off the price.
Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after the play, and the audience is invited to stay to sing Christmas carols.
"We want to fill this place with as many happy children as possible," Bryant said.
