Northside High celebrates 10th anniversary of their dance program

Northside High School will celebrate both dance and the 10th anniversary of its own dance program with the production, "N'Day -- A Celebration of Dance."

Pam Watson, of the Drama Mama and Daddies group, said that "N'Day -- A Celebration of Dance" is a production that includes a combination of the Northside chorus and dance classes.

"It is an extra special performance because we are also celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Richard Frazier coming to Northside to teach and the beginning of the dance program at Northside High School," Watson said.

Alexis Isom, a senior at Northside High School, has taken dance classes at the school for the past two years. Alexis has high praise for Frazier.

"He is just the coolest teacher and a really nice person," Alexis said. "He makes you feel so comfortable and you can go to him if you need anything, in his class or another class. He is a great teacher and makes learning so fun."

"Mr. Frazier gives a lot of constructive criticism," Alexis said. "Without him, our dance program wouldn't be what it is."

The theme of "N'Day -- A Celebration of Dance" is actually the anniversary of the Northside dance program.

"It is kind of a birthday party, a really big birthday party," Alexis said. "It is not a formal dance recital in the sense that you would think. It is the students from chorus and dance getting together and showing off our talents and what we have learned and just having fun."

Alexis is not planning on pursuing dance in college and has taken a strenuous academic course load at Northside, including honors and AP classes. Dance, like many electives, has been her outlet.

"Dance has really helped me get through my academic classes. It has let me be myself and have fun," Alexis said.

"N'Day -- A Celebration of Dance" will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Ray Horne Theater at Northside High School. Tickets are $5 a person, general admission.
