Perry, Veterans high schools bring home awards from 2AAAA Region One Act competition

Perry High School and Veterans High School both competed in the 2AAAA Region One Act competition Oct. 27, and both schools brought home plenty of awards.

Perry High School won the 2AAAA One-Act championship with its production of "Spooks is Real, Bobby T." The play was written by Joe Sendek, the drama director for Perry High School.

Veterans High School finished in second place, the region runner-up for its production of "The Elephant Man."

Both schools also won several cast and individual awards.

Perry High School won Best Set, Best Ensemble and Best Costumes. Three students from Perry were selected to the All-Star Cast -- Carter Whiddon, Cole Brown and Ansley Berry.

Perry High School and Veterans High School won three of the four highest individual awards. The region Best Actor award went to Chandler Shearin of Veterans High School. Emily Bodony of Veterans won Best Supporting Actress, while Tanner Jones from Perry High School won Best Supporting Actor.

As region champion, Perry High School will go on to the GHSA AAAA state One Act competition to be held Nov. 14. Plays from the region winners will be performed all day; Perry is scheduled for 5 p.m. The AAAA state competition will be held at Warner Robins High School and admission is free.
