KENT: Annual Fields of Faith to be held at Herb St. John Stadium in Perry
Tonight is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' annual Fields of Faith to be held at Herb St. John Stadium at Perry High School.
This is the ninth year that the Flint River FCA -- that encompasses Crawford, Houston, Macon, Peach and Taylor counties, including 23 middle and high schools and Fort Valley State University -- has participated in Fields of Faith. Last year, about 3,200 attended.
Fields of Faith is the biggest community ministry event of the Flint FCA year and predominantly an evening of student-led worship and speaking.
Daryl McElwain, area director of Flint River FCA, said that while the event is geared to students, all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
"We have so much momentum going on in our area, it is really a stark contrast to what you see on the national news. People would be encouraged and have a real faith in the youth of America. I think people would be blessed and encouraged to know that coaches, students, athletes, leaders on our school campuses are concerned about living a life consecrated to Christ."
Students from Northside High School, Houston County High School, Peach County High School, Veterans High School, Thomson Middle School and Westfield Schools will be sharing the stage."
Also speaking with be Marvin Mumford, who will emcee the crowd and interview two coaches on stage, Chad Alligood from Northside High and Lindsay Moneypenny from Huntington Middle School.
A student from Warner Robins High School will open the evening.
McElwain said that he puts out the word to coaches asking them to recommend students to speak at Fields of Faith and then has a short meeting with them.
"I find out what God has been doing in their life and whether they have something specific to share and then we talk through that. I encourage them to pray, to practice, to plan, to prepare. We want to honor the time that God has given us on that stage," McElwain said.
Fields of Faith is free and open to the public. Live music and food starts at 6:15 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m.
