KENT: Coolers going to raffle winners; firefighters to be honored
Just in time for tailgating season comes a great opportunity from the Warner Robins High School football players and cheerleaders.
To help raise money for their teams, the Demons are selling raffle tickets on Yeti coolers. The cooler is a white Yeti Tundra 45. Tickets are one for $5 and three for $10.
Tickets can be purchased from any Demon football player or cheerleader or by contacting Ami Lenderman, the cheer team’s head coach, at ami.lenderman@hcbe.net. You do not have to be present to win the raffle. Tickets will be available for purchase at all games, home and away.
There will be more than one Yeti cooler given away during the season, but purchased tickets do not remain in the drawing for future drawings.
The first cooler drawing will take place at the first Demon home football game Sept. 11.
When the members of the Warner Robins High School touchdown board sat down this summer to discuss any special recognitions during the upcoming football games like class reunions and supporters of the Demon program, the date of the first game jumped out at them.
September 11.
“Our first home game is on 9/11,” said Terry Price, president of the Warner Robins Touchdown Club. “We didn’t want to forget the sacrifice that was made by firefighters on that date, and it seemed a perfect date to remember the commitment that our firefighters give for our community’s safety every day.”
Warner Robins Fire Department Chief Robert Singletary has been named honorary captain of that night’s game and will flip the coin. Singletary graduated from Warner Robins High School, where he was a member of the football team. A fire truck will be in the parking lot of McConnell-Talbert Stadium hoisting a huge American flag that night, and all firefighters dressed in uniform will be admitted to the game for free.
“We are going to have the firefighters all come down on the track for the pregame activities and to be honored before the game,” Price said.
Price said that free admission to the games was not only for city firefighters but for any firefighter.
“These are men and women who put in time every day -- and their lives on the line -- to keep our community safe. They are our hometown heroes. We want to honor them and also remember the members of the firefighter brotherhood that lost their lives on September 11,” Price said.
