The organization that lobbies on behalf of county governments in Georgia recognized Houston County Commission Chairman Tommy Stalnaker as its Legislative Advocate of the Year.

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia presented the award to Stalnaker on May 1 at its annual convention held in Savannah, according to an ACCG news release.

Stalnaker is an active member of the ACCG Policy Council and is chairman of the council’s Natural Resources and the Environment Policy Committee, the release stated.

Todd Edwards, associate legislative director for ACCG, said he heard from Stalnaker almost daily during the legislative session

“I cannot think of another county commissioner in the state of Georgia that’s involved as often or as effectively as Tommy,” Edwards said in the release. “Those three months of the year can have the greatest impact — for years, for decades — on county governments, and he understands that.”
