A Perry man has been arrested in connection with a domestic incident Sunday in which his girlfriend was hospitalized, police said.

Joshua Allie Scott, 30, was charged with one count of aggravated battery in the episode, which happened about 1:10 p.m. at the couple’s residence at 510 Seminole St., Perry police Capt. Heath Dykes said.

Scott is accused of hitting 34-year-old Heidi Bentley in the head with some sort of object, causing a “severe head injury,” Dykes said.

Bentley was taken by ambulance to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where she underwent surgery, Dykes said. She was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police recovered the object that they think Scott struck Bentley with, but Dykes declined to release that information until police have an opportunity to interview Bentley.

Police do not yet know what prompted the incident.

Scott was being held without bond Monday at the Houston County jail.
