Robins airman accused of killing fiancee, unborn child faces three courts-martial
A series of three separate courts-martial are expected to start next month against a senior airman at Robins Air Force Base accused of killing his fiancee and their unborn child for $1 million in insurance money.
Charles Amos Wilson III also has been linked to another death in an unrelated suspicious fire, and he also is accused of assaulting a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant in yet another case.
A military judge recently ruled that Wilson will be tried separately in the three cases, according to a Thursday news release from Robins.
The court-martial related to the deaths of his fiancee and their unborn child is expected to be held last. He could face the death penalty if convicted of a capital murder charge against him in that case, according to the release.
All the courts-martial are expected to be held at the Houston County Courthouse in Perry.
The first court-martial to be heard is related to the arson death.
On May 23, Wilson is scheduled to be tried on charges of felony murder, arson and related charges in the death of Demetrius Hardy, the release said.
In October 2011, Hardy, 27, a civilian worker at Robins, died from injuries sustained in a fire. Wilson is accused of asking Hardy to set fire to Wilson’s rental home to collect insurance money. But something went wrong with their plan, and Hardy died from injuries sustained in the blaze.
The second court-martial has been set for June 6 and is related to a July 2012 assault and subsequent threats against a retired female technical sergeant.
Charges against Wilson include assault, intentional discharge of a firearm and communicating a threat.
The last court-martial is related to the alleged premeditated murder of Tameda Ferguson, 30, and their unborn child. The date for that court-martial has not yet been determined, the release said.
In the early-morning hours of Aug. 29, 2013, the body of Ferguson, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant, was found shot in her home in Dawson.
Wilson was arrested two days later on charges of murder and feticide after an investigation by the GBI and Terrell County Sheriff’s Office. The case was later turned over to the Air Force at its request. Wilson’s military charges include premeditated murder and death of an unborn child.
Assigned to the 461st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Wilson was on active duty about eight years. He is being held in pretrial confinement at a military facility.
