Bonaire Middle School student wins District 6 Spelling Bee
Rebecca Kenny, a seventh-grader at Bonaire Middle School in Houston County, won the District 6 Spelling Bee on Saturday.
The winning word was argentine, said Rhonda R. Moulder, District 6 Spelling Bee consultant
In addition to a trophy, Rebecca received a $200 voucher, said Moulder. Kenny also won the Houston County System Bee in 2014.
The District 6 Spelling Bee was held at The Pettigrew Center on the campus of Fort Valley State University.
Fourteen school systems were represented by students in grades four through eight, Moulder said. These students won their school system bee.
The runner-up was Jules Passmore, a fourth grader at Upson-Lee North Elementary School, representing Thomaston-Upson County. It was her first time competing in the District Bee. She received a $100 voucher.
The alternate was Ashley Warren, a 5th grade student at Eagle Ridge Academy, representing Muscogee County.
All procedures, rules, and regulations were from the Georgia Association of Educators Spelling Bee Committee, Moulder said.
Kenny and Passmore will both compete at the State Spelling Bee on March 18 at Zoo Atlanta/Coca Cola World Studio beginning at 11:00 a.m.
