Centerville to name new police chief
CENTERVILLE -- City Council will announce a new police chief Thursday.
The council will hold a special meeting Thursday at 4:30 p.m. to announce the new chief, according to information from city clerk Krista Bedingfield and Councilman Micheal Evans.
Evans provides oversight for the police department for the council and has been involved in interviewing candidates for the chief spot since the end of last year.
Centerville has been without a chief since June 2015 when Sidney Andrews resigned the post. In the meantime, the council made several attempts, some stirring controversy, to provide leadership at the department, culminating in a member of the Houston County Sheriff's Office taking the helm temporarily until mid-December.
