Byron police offer free course geared toward teen drivers
Byron police are offering a free course designed to help parents or guardians prepare their teenagers to drive.
The Georgia Teens Ride with PRIDE, or Parents Reducing Injuries and Driver Error, course is being held at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at Byron City Hall, 401 Main St., according to a Byron police news release.
The classroom-only instruction is designed to help parents and guardians become more aware of their own driving habits while teaching them how to help their teenagers become better drivers.
"It's designed to help young people become better decision makers, especially as new drivers," said Frankie Jones, who heads up The Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute at The University of Georgia, via a news release. The institute developed the two-hour course.
"Our ultimate goal is to reduce risk-taking behavior and youth-related car crashes," Jones said.
A teen and at least one parent or guardian must register to attend. Call the Byron Police Department at 478-956-2880 or email lsmith@byronga.com and request a registration form. Forms may also be picked up at the Byron Police Department at City Hall.
