Police: Warner Robins man killed in Valdosta in drug-related shooting
A Warner Robins man was fatally shot this week in Valdosta, and one of the suspects was apprehended by Houston County authorities, Valdosta police said.
Police found Lenton Swint, 21, lying in the front doorway of a home in the 1000 block of Cherokee Street in Valdosta shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, according to a police news release.
He was taken to the South Georgia Medical Center where he died.
According to the release, Swint and one of his friends walked to the front of the Cherokee Street house and saw two men standing in the yard. They asked to speak with a resident there.
"The friend said he later heard a knock at the door and a gunshot, then found the victim had been shot," the release said.
Police think the shooting was drug related, and four people have been arrested. Kelvin Latchie, 19, has been charged with felony murder. Johnny Slocumb Jr., 22, Brian Sutton, 21, and Daryn Wooten, 18, were each charged with being a party to the crime of felony murder.
Police initially thought Swint lived at the Cherokee Street home but later learned that he lived in Warner Robins.
Warner Robins police were credited in the news release for helping to interview witnesses in the case and for recovering "valuable" evidence. The Houston County Sheriff's Office was credited with locating and arresting Slocumb.
Houston County sheriff's Capt. M.J. Stokes said Slocumb, who lives in Warner Robins, was arrested Wednesday morning.
Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said in the release that police started with "very little information" but were able to locate the suspects within 48 hours of the slaying.
