Two people carjacked Tuesday night on Long Steet in Houston County

A man and woman were carjacked by two masked men Tuesday night on Long Street in Houston County after getting lost.

The suspects likely had just burglarized a home and came upon the parked vehicle as they were fleeing, said Houston County sheriff's Capt. Jon Holland.

"They apparently were just in the wrong place at the wrong time," Holland said.

According to the sheriff's incident report, the man, who was driving, had pulled over in front of a home at 126 Long St. to check his phone for directions. Long Street is located off Dunbar Road, not far from Elberta Road off Ga. 247.

While he was looking down at his phone, a masked man opened the driver side door of the silver 2015 Toyota Camry, pointed a gun at him and told him to get out. The woman passenger, who owns the car, was also forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint. according to the report.

Once outside, the victims could see another man also wearing dark clothing with a bandanna over his face. The men took off with the car and were last seen headed north on Long Street. They also stole the man and woman's cell phones.

The woman told deputies she did not see the men come up to the car. She said she was doing her taxes on her cellphone, according to the report.

While on scene, deputies also learned that the home the man and woman had stopped in front of had been broken into, the report said.

"We've got two crimes," Holland said. "We've got the burglary of the residence ... They (the suspects) were interrupted by the homeowner.

"When they fled, apparently, they ran into these two people .. and took their car at gunpoint," Holland said.

The car was later recovered on King Drive a couple of miles away from where it was stolen, Holland said.

In October, a shooting occurred in the vicinity of the carjacking. Holland said the shooting and Tuesday's incidents are unrelated.

On Oct. 18, Danny Glover is accused of retrieving a gun from the same 126 Long St. residence that was burglarized Tuesday and shooting Curtis Noles, 38, at the home of 34-year-old Lakeeva Smith at 127 Long Street. The men had been arguing.

Several shots were fired with bullets hitting Noles in the chest and left leg and striking Smith in the back of her upper left leg, a sheriff's news release stated.

Noles was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, in Macon, treated and later released. Smith was treated and released from the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.

Glover remained jailed Wednesday at the Houston County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, pointing a pistol at another, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
