Warner Robins man indicted on aggravated assault charge in shooting

A Warner Robins man was indicted this week on an aggravated assault charge for allegedly shooting another man in the leg.

Randy Duantrell Coleman, 35, is accused of shooting 29-year-old Jamail Lawson in front of a home in the 200 block of Wendan Way in Warner Robins on Nov. 10. Lawson was hospitalized and later released from the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

The grand jury handed up the indictment Tuesday.

"We kind of had words," Lawson said Wednesday. "He was threatening me and calling me all kinds of names and stuff."

"He told me ... if I put my hands on him, he was going to shoot me. ... I didn't try to put my hands on him or anything like that, but I guess when I moved ... he just turned around and he just started shooting."

But Coleman alleged in a defense motion for bond reconsideration that he thought he saw "a firearm come out of Mr. Lawson's pocket," so he shot him in the leg, the motion said.

In a motion filed against granting bond, Assistant District Attorney Dan Bibler noted the case involves "a shooting concerning alleged drugs."

According to the defense motion, Lawson said during a preliminary hearing that Coleman had given him some bad pills in exchange for money. But Lawson said Wednesday that he did not have a weapon and that he had given Coleman some old pain medication.

Lawson said he and Coleman were close friends before the shooting. Coleman remains jailed without bond at the Houston County jail.
