Perry to apply for EPA grant, public input sought
The city of Perry is applying for a federal grant to help clean up some potentially contaminated properties.
A Brownfields Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency would provide funding to identify, inventory and assess the potential for contamination on properties within the city limits, according to a newsletter on the city's website.
A public hearing for questions and answers is set for Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in City Hall at 1211 Washington St.
Specifically, the grant would help with cleaning up vacant and blighted properties, minimizing exposure to contaminants and sparking job creation and local economic development, according to the newsletter.
It is estimated that there are more than 450,000 brownfields sites in the country, according to the EPA's website.
