Feed the City, a nonprofit serving Middle Georgia since 1997, is seeking volunteers and needy families to participate in its 18th annual Thanksgiving Giveaway in Warner Robins on Nov. 21.

About 2,000 families are expected to line up outside New Hope International Church on Sullivan Road that Saturday morning to receive a frozen turkey and other traditional holiday fixings they can prepare for their families on Thanksgiving. The event will last from 8 a.m. until noon and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news release from Feed the City.

A "pack night" for volunteers will take place at the church on Nov. 20 from 6-8 p.m.

Linda Thomas, director of Feed the City, said the nonprofit fed 12,000 people last year. Since its creation, Feed the City has provided food for more than 90,000 people.

"We look to feed our 100,000th person this year during our drive," Thomas said. "We're going to try to keep up with numbers and try to find out where that person is."

Thomas said volunteers will be passing out lists of food items needed for the nonprofit to shoppers at Warner Robins grocery stores. The list includes turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green beans and cranberry sauce, among other items.

"Everybody loves it because you immediately see the effect of it and how it's really a help to someone," Thomas said.
