Houston County sheriff’s office investigating home invasion

WARNER ROBINS -- A 52-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint Monday by two men during a home invasion in the 100 block of Virginia Dare Drive.

The woman told authorities the men showed up at her doorstep about 11:34 a.m. and forced their way inside, Houston County sheriff’s Lt. Dave Carrick said.

One of the men shouted, “Where’s the money at, old lady? Give it up.”

The woman wrestled with the men over her purse and she chased them as they fled from her mobile home. She tackled one of the men, Carrick said.

The one who was tackled dropped the handgun before getting away, Carrick said. The handgun was not loaded, Carrick said. The men fled in a red, four-door car.

The woman gave authorities a limited description of the men, whom she said were wearing hoodies, Carrick said.

She told authorities she had just returned home after cashing a $175 check at a store but did not think she was followed, he said.

Authorities expect to review the store’s surveillance video and determine if they can see a car matching the woman’s description, Carrick said.

Others witnessed the incident, he said.
