Suspect arrested in Houston County stabbing death

One man is dead and his uncle is in custody after a stabbing in Houston County early Sunday.

Macon resident Shaun Lawson, 44, died on the way to the Houston County Medical Center from stab wounds to the head and neck after an altercation at 205 West Houston Road in Kathleen, according to a release from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s deputies reached the residence around 3 a.m. and arrested 48-year-old Leon Springer on charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a knife during commission of a crime and third degree cruelty to children. According to the release, witnesses said the stabbing was the result of a prior argument between the two men.

Springer is being held without bond at the Houston County jail. Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to call the Houston County Sheriff’s Office at 542-2080 or Lt. Dave Carrick at 542-2085.
