Four Atlanta men indicted in Houston County gas station killing

WARNER ROBINS -- Four suspected gang members from Atlanta have been indicted on murder charges in connection with the killing of a Macon man as he pumped gas at a Booth Road station last year.

Monnie Joseph Brabham IV, 32, was shot and killed minutes before noon on Jan. 23, 2014, at the pumps of Murphy USA near the Wal-Mart off Russell Parkway in Warner Robins.

Michael Montreal Gooden, 23, Clifton James Roberts, 30, Ameshia Cartis Cosby, 18, and Deondray Darnell Yarn, 19, all were indicted on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act. Also, Gooden, Roberts and Yarn each were indicted on a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Although Dewayne Eric Seymore initially was charged in the case, those charges are being dismissed due to a pending prosecution by North Carolina authorities, said District Attorney George Hartwig. Houston County could pursue prosecution later but may choose not to based on the outcome of that case.

That case involved the April 5, 2014, kidnapping of a North Carolina man whose daughter prosecuted a high-ranking Bloods gang member for ordering the killing of another man in 2011.

Kelvin Melton, who is now serving a life sentence in the Polk Correctional Institute in Butner, North Carolina, is accused of organizing and orchestrating from prison the kidnapping of Frank Janssen from his Wake Forest home. Janssen, the father of Colleen Janssen, a Wake County, North Carolina, prosecutor, was rescued by the FBI April 9 from the Atlanta apartment where he was held.

Warner Robins police have said they think Gooden, Roberts, Cosby, Yarn and Seymore were associated with the One Eight Trey gang.

Brabham was not part of the gang, and One Eight Trey was not a Warner Robins gang, police said.

Gooden and Roberts also were among several people indicted in the North Carolina case. Police have said the North Carolina slaying and Warner Robins killing were unrelated.
