Man arrested in Wellston Trail incident in Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS -- A 37-year-old Warner Robins man has been arrested in connection with Sunday’s assault on a woman on Wellston Trail, police said.

Robert William Lathrop turned himself in Tuesday night at the Warner Robins Law Enforcement Center, according to a Warner Robins police news release.

The woman was walking along the trail with her child about 5:15 p.m. when Lathrop allegedly tried to engage her in conversation and attacked her, police said. She fought him off, and he fled. She suffered minor injuries.

Although no other problems have been reported on the Wellston Trail, police encourage residents to stay vigilant and to walk and run in pairs.

According to the state Department of Corrections website, Lathrop served time in prison for a 2003 child molestation conviction and a 2005 peeping Tom conviction.
